An internship represents a learning experience to try out a career idea, define your career goals, and learn more about yourself and the world of work. The following web-sites provide information about internships opportunities. They are listed under general internship information, internships specific to different majors, internships for diverse populations, and for those who would like to get international experiences. 

You may also want to contact your career services office to learn more about internship opportunities within your college. Career Connection does not work with employers.

Smithsonian Internship Opportunities Each of the Smithsonian's museums and many of it's research institutes and offices offer college-level and post graduate internships. This web site coordinates a centralized internship application referral service to all Smithsonian internship programs and also a fellowship program on museums practices.
Summer Jobs Search a database with more than 3000 summer camps and academic and travel programs. Some of these camps recruit internationals students.
Communications and Journalism
TV Internships List television stations from across the U.S.. The user can link to the stations' home pages to learn about their internship programs.
Entertainment and Hospitality
Walt Disney College Intern Program This sites describes the College Program and the Advanced Internship Program, which is only available to those who have successfully completed the College Program. Both programs are designed to increase knowledge about the entertainment and hospitality industries, and are limited to undergraduate students.
Government/Non-Profit
Idealist Includes public policy, social service, and education ad health agencies internships. Select Nonprofit Internship from the home page to access the database, which is searchable by area of focus, location, skills needed, language needed, and compensation type (i.e. paid versus unpaid). Or, you can browse through the listing of all the internships, which is organized by U.S. states.
AmeriCorps AmeriCorps participants receive education awards in exchange for services. This site includes program descriptions, lists of benefits, and examples of the work performed by AmeriCorps.
Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship The Scoville Fellowship provides stipends for college graduates to spend four to six months working for a non-profit organization in Washington D.C. on a range of issues involving nuclear and conventional arms control and disarmament, international security and related issues. This site details the application process and selection criteria.
The Ohio Governor's Community Service Council The Ohio Community Service Council's Web site provides information about national and community service programs.
The Ohio Legislative Service Commission (LSC) Sponsors a legislative intern program for over thirty years.   The LSC sponsors twenty-seven paid thirteen-month legislative internships designed to provide college graduates with practical experience in the legislative process
The Washington Center Describes the Washington Center internship program, a competitive program for those interested in internships with government agencies. According to the homepage text, "at least 80% of the internship duties is substantive and equivalent to that of an entry level professional."
The CIA Lists several opportunities for students to get involved."
The FBI Lists several opportunities for students to get involved."
U.S. Department of State Describes the programs available to those in foreign affairs. Some interns work in Washington D.C. while others work at embassies overseas. Includes both paid and unpaid positions.
Mathematical and Physical Sciences
Research and Training at the National Institutes of Health  It describes the summer internships for college and graduate students interested in administrative as well as research experience. Also includes information about average stipend amounts, summaries of the research being conducted at the NIH organizations, and an on-line application feature.
International

Volunteer and Work Abroad  Volunteer, teach and work abroad teaching English, conservation, media, health, building and care work projects in more than 19 countries.
Internships for Diverse Populations
Inroads The purpose of INROAD is to place talented minority youth in business, engineering, science, and food service, retail, or health care management positions. Preference goes to African-American, Hispanic, and Native American high school and college students with grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Describes the application process and lists the addresses for the 60 plus INROADS Affiliates across the US. (The affiliate administer the application process and oversee the internship assignments for their regions.)
Saludos Web Describes 15 plus internship programs for Hispanic/Latino students, most of which are located in the Eastern and Western regions of the U.S. as well as internationally.
